Semester I

This course introduces the growth of the phenomenon of terrorism within the political system. It addresses the questions of the definition of terrorism, history of the concept, perspectives on causes, structure and organisation of terrorist groups, relationship to the debate on the changing face of warfare, and the consequences of terrorism. The course is aimed to enhance the critical ability of the students to understand and analyse the issues of terrorism, and it critically analyses several regions in which terrorism has been prevalent, and the actions taken by states to control terrorism.  This course further considers women and children’s participation in terrorism, looking at how women and children are recruited into terrorist organizations, the political strategies they use, and how those have changed over time.
